It is how the game is straight out tactics, me vs you, maybe a few thrown in there. If I may use an analogy here, the games are like Super Smash Bros Warcraft III is not-so-shiny van that you can fit every little shiny thing that catches your eye, from satellite dishes to a repeating 2.5 caliber autocannon to a jacuzzi.ĭoW is better at being an RTS - but Warcraft III gives you so much more than a mere RTS. Think of it this way DoW is a nice tank that looks cool and has a shiny gun turret. You get different looking factions every once in a while, but you're still playing an RTS. You can't do this in DoW - you play vanilla, and that's that.

But when you can play a different game every map - that's the draw you get when you play WCIII. With it, maps such as Wintermaul, Skibi's Castle TD, DotA, Uther Party, and Elimination, which are so far removed from the gameplay of vanilla Melee, can be created and played.

It lets you fundementally change how the game is played. The WCIII map editor lets you produce scenarios that are far and beyond merely reskinning units, or adding new races. I'm going to go against the "consensus" and tell you to get WCIII.ĭoW is a better RTS (may be debatable though.), but Warcraft III is a better overall game.
